Trusting God in the Midst of Financial Crisis

Trusting God in the Midst of Financial Crisis

Have you ever faced a financial crisis? Have you ever experienced a season, or perhaps several seasons where there was more month than there was money? Have you ever felt as if things were not going to turn around for you?

You are not alone.

My husband Michael and I have had several seasons of financial crisis in our 17 years of marriage. Although it may sound crazy, we are so thankful that we went through these hard times and that we had Jesus to lean on during each one.

Trusting God in the Midst of Financial Crisis

Financial hardship looks different for every family. From humble beginnings (which are an absolute blessing from the Lord) to failing economies to poor decisions, one things is certain: We serve a God who is with us through it all.

During one of our most difficult seasons of financial hardship we felt so helpless that it was nearly unbearable. We were living in Germany and we got news that our tenants in our rental home in North Carolina were behind 3 months on their rent. In addition to their non-payment, they had also caused what was estimated to be over $10,000 worth of damage to our beautiful home.

We were a mess.

We asked God many, many questions. How could this happen? Why did this happen? How can we prevent this in the future? What are we supposed to do while we are living in another country? How can we pay for this?

More importantly we asked: God what are you showing us through all of this?

God's answer to us can be found in Psalm 37:25 (NIV):

I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.

Then it hit us like a ton of bricks. While this circumstance was less than desirable, one thing remained the same: God had not forsaken us and our children were healthy, fed, and clothed. We had much to be grateful for. This is a lesson that has stuck with us and changed our entire perspective on financial crisis.

The end result from this particular financial hardship was that we decided to trust God and His Word. And you know what? He provided everything we needed and more to pay our mortgage and repair our home. While trusting God may not always be easy, I've learned that it is an absolute in my life. And even more so in the hard times.

Are you facing a season of financial difficulty? If so, I encourage you to Trust the Lord with everything you have and watch and see that He is good!

We created a Scripture journal on the very topic of trust. Writing out the Scriptures has always been a good way to build my faith and remind me of God's promises. You can see it

Praying for you!
