5 Prayers to Daily Pray for My Husband

5 Prayers to Daily Pray for My Husband

Are you praying for your husband? Do you believe your prayers can change his life and heart? If you are looking to begin the practice of prayer, and care for your spouse- these topics are a great way to start!

When I look back at my marriage of 21 years I know how much I have been blessed.  I married a great man, a really great man!  However that doesn't mean there hasn't been tough times.  Marriage is work, anyone who tells you it is not is fooling themselves.  We have made countless mistakes, hurt each other with our words and actions, and just plain failed each other at times. We have to be intentional in keeping our marriage healthy and strong!  One of my biggest regrets is not praying for my husband the way I should have early in our marriage.  Oh, I would say back then I'm praying for him, but I wasn't truly giving it very much time.

Recently we saw The War Room.  If you have not seen that movie, see it as soon as possible.  It speaks of the power of prayer and how important it is.  The movie centers around prayer for a troubled marriage but it truly applies and touches on all areas of our lives.

Several months ago I shared 5 Prayers to Daily Pray for My Children,  Today I wanted to share 5 daily prayers I lift up on behalf of my husband.  These are not the only prayers I give to God for my spouse but these are ones I don't like to leave out.

His Protection - This covers many areas.  His health and well-being, as well as his protection against the enemy. I pray that evil stays away and that he has strength and wisdom to fight off temptation.  I pray that God protects him with his mighty hand!

His Commitment - I pray for his commitment to Christ,  I pray that his relationship continues to grow in the Lord and that he will seek Jesus always.  If you have an unsaved spouse this is the perfect time to pray for his salvation.  I knew a lady at my church who prayed for her unsaved spouse for 30 years, he was a heavy drinker and in human eyes it looked like he would never choose Christ.  But you know what?  One day he did!  He walked down that isle at church and gave his heart to Jesus and served him the next 30 years until his death.  Don't ever give up, God is listening!

His Purity - I pray for his purity.  We live is such a heart sick culture, there are images, billboards, and even commercials that will fight for his attention and tempt him. My prayer is always that he will flee from temptation and that the Lord will help him.  Pray that your husband will live his life with the wise words of Peter in his heart.

1 Peter 5 8-11 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

His Purpose - Everyone has a purpose.  Men really struggle if they don't know their purpose or they feel like they don't know what direction they should go. I pray that God shows my husband very clearly what his purpose is.  I pray that God shows him what his purpose is with his job and/or ministry as well as with his family and friendships. Our husbands often carry many burdens, we need to pray that God gives them peace and lifts their load.

His Parenting - He is the father of my children.  I pray that God directs his path in his parenting.  I pray that God gives him wisdom in how to handle each child and how to work alongside them to give them wisdom and love. I pray for his patience and his understanding.   Pray that God shows your husband what is important and what is not, and that he will establish a strong relationship with his kids that will last a lifetime!

What would you add?
