Summer has just begun here in the Midwest, and my 13-year old son is about to have a lot of free time on his hands. I love that he suddenly has time to mow the lawn, play wiffle ball in the backyard, swim, and ride bikes with friends. The former teacher in me, though, really wants to see him read lots and lots of books this summer!
For the first 23 years of my life, I was Little Miss Perfect who never made any mistakes (that were public). And of course, I didn’t associate with people who made those mistakes. You know, like good little Christian girls do.
It was a boring, lifeless, self-serving existence.
These past few weeks my Facebook feed has felt like theatre. Awash with a wild combination of varied opinion and commentary on several big issues that have made national news, I've never felt the desire to leave the online landscape more than I have recently. Friends and acquaintance acquaintances alike have bantered and argued and riled back at opposing opinions with fury, and I began to wonder: When did we all stop being kind?
With all the sleepless nights and long days, the beauty of this crown does not portray the reality of everyday life. But it is symbolic of the honor it is to be a mother.
Well, well, well. Here we are in June. My kids have been out of school since the last week of May so I am definitely in the swing of summer break! There is no doubt that summer comes with mixed emotions–relief from the intense mornings, lunch packing, and homework, yet a bit of frustration trying to juggle everything you did in those hours they were gone!
