You Are Beautiful. God Says So.

“My nose is too long.”

That’s what she came up with. My friend, as lovely on the outside as she is in her soul—we’re talking swimsuit model material here—when asked what she would change about her looks, confessed she has never liked the tip of her nose. “It’s out of proportion,” she said.

I’m telling you, I’ve never seen it.

Just ask a room full of women what they dislike about their bodies, and you’ll get a room full of answers.

My feet are too big.
My hips are too wide.
My arms are too scrawny.
My hair is too straight, too curly, the wrong color, wrong texture—oh the hair issues alone!

Why are we so hard on ourselves?

Here’s a little challenge. Grab a piece of paper and write down three things about your physical appearance that you wish you could change. Sadly, for most of us this exercise won’t take very long.

Got ‘em? Okay, great.

Now hold that piece of paper high in the air—and rip it into tiny shreds.

Because everything you wrote on it is a big, fat lie.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:13–14).

According to the Bible, you are crafted by a perfect, purposeful, and all-loving God. He makes no mistakes. God does not do “flaws.” He thought you up, fashioned you, grew you, and today he looks at you and says—this is my masterpiece.

That nose you wish was shorter.
That hair you wish were blonder.
Those feet that haven’t been a size six since fifth grade—sisters, I feel your pain.

They were not a mistake. God did not take a nap during your formative years. He was there, intimately involved, and orchestrating every detail. 

If that’s not enough, understand the Bible also says that we were made in the image of God. God is the ultimate beautiful being, and we were made in His image. We were made to reflect Him.

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27)

To insult yourself is to insult the Creator God who made you.

So next time you’re looking into the mirror and are tempted to pick out your flaws, remember God doesn’t see you that way. Only YOU see you that way.
