3 Things The Christian Woman Can Do For Her Soul Right Now

3 Things The Christian Woman Can Do For Her Soul Right Now

Let’s be completely honest up front. Deal? You wouldn’t have clicked on this article if you weren’t just a little bit curious about what you can do right now to care for your soul. Which means, you could be experiencing some emotional fatigue.

I’m not talking about being tired from your to-do list. I’m talking about the emotional exhaustion that comes when we physically experience the weight of the responsibilities we shoulder.

Maybe that’s you right now. Maybe that is exactly how you feel. Perhaps it is your job, or your children, or your own expectations contributing to these emotions. Sister, I don’t know your story, nor will I pretend like I do, but I do know the weight of the overwhelmed heart, and I know how to recognize it.

Often, an exhausted heart manifests in the form of stress, or sadness, or fear, or anger, or anxiousness, or purposeful busyness (or a combination of any of the above). So what do we do? How do we care for our hearts when there are so many other things that need our attention?

Here are 3 things you can do for your heart right now.

1.)    Examine how you really feel.

I’m guilty of trying to convince myself that I don’t really feel the way that I do. I either cram down my emotions, or I just try to fool myself. “I’ll be better if I can just get some rest,” I tell myself. The truth is, we cannot deal with what is really taking place in our hearts if we are either oblivious or purposefully ignoring our true feelings. Consider how you feel right now.

2.)    Invite the Lord to come close.

Scripture reminds us in 2 Corinthians 3:17, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” When the Spirit of the Lord comes near us, He changes us. He brings freedom, and no matter how you feel right now, no matter what you’re facing, no matter what is happening in the room around you as you read these words, the Lord will ease your burdened heart if you simply ask Him to come close.

3.)    Align your heart with Truth.

Sometimes, I let my emotions lie to me. When my heart becomes overwhelmed, and I feel scared, or angry, or stressed, I believe that I have to feel that way. I believe that my circumstances have led me to these feelings, and the only way for my feelings to change will be for my circumstances to change first. But that’s not true. What would God say if He were to walk into the room? What is He speaking to your heart as He draws close to you right now? We might not need our situation to change so much as we need our perspectives to shift. Try whispering these words, “Jesus, You can change everything in an instant including my attitude, my level of hope, and my expectations. Help me not to forget this Truth.”

There are other ways we can care for our hearts when we have actual time to devote to it. We can read the Bible and meditate on Scripture. We can pray, share our hearts with the Lord, and listen for His voice. And we can seek counsel from trusted friends.

But right now, in the middle of your day, without requiring much time at all, you can examine how you feel, invite the Lord to come close, and align your heart with His Truth… and maybe, maybe those three things will be exactly what you didn’t know you desperately needed.

Blessings,
