5 Things I Want To Teach My Kids About Health & Fitness

Just last week, a new statistic came out stating that by 2030, 42% of adults will be obese. (Currently, a little over 1/3 of adults are obese.)

That's 20 years from now.

Most of our children will be well into their adulthood.

I don't know about you, but I don't want my kids to be part of that statistic. I am surrounded by adults who are tired, non-motivated and moving with zero vigor in life. My prayer is that my children can experience the fullness of life that living healthy can provide.

One of the biggest, driving factors to me living a life of health and vitality is the example that I'm setting for my children. It's my job to teach and MODEL good behaviors now. It's my job to teach and MODEL correct mentalities about healthy living.

Here are 5 things I want to teach my kids about health and fitness:

1.) It's not everything in life. When you have to choose between a workout and a hurting friend, choose the hurting friend. (1 Timothy 4:8)

2.) Our bodies are not our own. God owns them and they were bought with an expensive price. Everything you do with it needs to honor Him and don't forget to ask Him! (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

3.) Surround yourself with friends who value health as much as you do and when you are with those who don't, be an example that they are drawn toward. (Matthew 5:16)

4.) Our bodies will pass on, but our spirits will live forever. Make sure you spend just as much time (if not more) toning, challenging and energizing your spirit. If your physical life is in better shape than your spiritual, you have something messed up. (1 John 2:17)

oh yeah.

5.) Enjoy an occasional bowl of ice cream or cookie! They are good! (Ecclesiastes 9:7)

Do the recent statistics scare you at all? Do you feel it's important to be the example to our children? What do you want to teach your kids about health and fitness?
