Hi, friend!

Hi friend! I am so glad you have stopped by the site. We have such a wonderful community of moms here and we would LOVE for you to join us as we share life and learn together!

When We Need Fewer Opinions And More Truth

We have more access to information that ever before, but does it make us better thinkers? Perhaps as we toggle back and forth between more voices, it makes it harder to hear the voice of the One. As moms, how can we find stillness in all the noise? …

Recently, in the deluge of headlines, national news, international crises, and history making events, anyone navigating the internet may have found it to be exceptionally noisy place.

As grateful as I am for the access we currently have to information, the latest commentary, and debates held in the public forum, I’m wondering if all this easily obtained information has done us a disservice.

I’m not sure that more information has made us better thinkers.

In fact, the opposite may be true in my own life. The more I toggle back and forth between various voices, the more I’m preoccupied with the opinions of the masses and less so with cultivating an ear for the voice of One.

You see, as with all things that are worth contemplating: It takes time.

There are really no short cuts to reading God’s word, meditating and praying through what is found in it’s pages, and wrestling with how one is to live out those convictions. We so often hope to bypass the pain and strain of laboring in the garden of the Scriptures (I know why I don’t read my Bible!) and take the more convenient route of choosing allies, taking sides, following opinion.

In the same way, today’s in-the-trenches momma is faced with the same context when trying to gain wisdom in childrearing, marriage-strengthening, homemaking, purpose-finding: She can be saturated with opinion and information, or she can be grounded in the truth of God’s word.

Being a blogger, Instagrammer, online entrepreneur, and the author of this blog post, I certainly am not suggesting that we’d do well to ignore all that is offered to us through news, websites, and social media. I’m simply feeling the call to return whole-heartedly to a reverence and commitment to God’s word, first and only. Everything else will either drive us closer to making much of God’s unchanging truth, or the making much of our own opinions.

In motherhood, in the headlines, and in everything in between…let our hearts be quick to desire the voice of One alone.

Because of grace,

Ruth Simons
