2 Things You Need To Know To Radically Prepare For Parenting

The way you view kids will determine the overall outcome of your parenting.  It effects your overall attitude towards them and also the sense of value and love that your children feel from you. While a proper view of children certainly can be attained after your sweet little one is on the way, I’d like to challenge momma-wannabes to put time and effort in now to learn what God says about the value of children and how that effects the way we should view and treat them.

Here are 2 Things You Need Know To Radically Prepare For Parenting.

1.  Children Are A Blessing From God

“Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.  Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth.  How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them...”  -Psalms 127 {NASB}

God calls children a gift and a reward.  This goes against everything our culture tells women today.  We are badgered with the message that children are a nuisance that will inhibit us from achieving our “full” potential (potential defined by sinful man’s standard, not God’s).

We need to take the time to shift our thinking to match His.  God calls children a blessing and what God deems a blessing we should also count as a blessing and a gift, not a curse or necessary evil.

2.  Every Child Is Highly Valued By God

“For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb.  I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.  My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;  Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.” -Psalm 139 {NASB}

Psalms 139 describes the strong care and skillful intricacy God takes in forming a baby in the womb.  One does not take the time to form such an incredibly wonderful master piece and not attribute value to it.  God values children from the very time of conception to birth and far beyond.

If God, the creator of the universe values children, certainly we have a responsibility to do the same.  We must conform our views to His and see children as something of great worth.  Babies are not just another thing to add to our material checklist of accomplishments (big house, nice car, cute child etc.).  No, children are to be looked at as treasures worth far beyond the “American Dream”.

When going into marriage and motherhood viewing children the way God sees them significantly effects the way we treat them, love them and even train them.  It will also effect the attitude we have on the good days and the bad days too.  When we understand that our children are valued by God, given as a blessing from the Lord, made in His image for His glory we will be more bent towards treating them as valuable blessings worth the time it takes to shepherd and train them properly.

Young women, I want to challenge you to go against the grain, defy the culture and develop a proper perspective of children now.  Don’t believe the lie our culture tells young women like us that children are a necessary evil, an inconvenience or something to add to our list of “trophies”.

Take time now to become a better mom by learning what God says about children and conforming your perspective with His.  This will not only be a blessing to you but to your children and your children’s children.

Don’t wait!  Take time now to learn the truths that will impact generations to come!
