Loving Like Jesus

“I get excited to wake up each morning to read the Word!!! GMG has helped me to stay on a daily schedule, and develop a routine. I love the accountability and discussion between women in my group!”- Kerri

I’m so excited to announce the upcoming GoodMorningGirls.Org fall session starting this coming September 2nd! Invite some friends we’d love to have you and join us!

What is Good Morning Girls? (GMG)

If you have never heard of Good Morning Girls before here’s a little explanation. “Good Morning Girls” is a title for a group of women who use email, Facebook, Twitter, Skype or text messaging to keep each other accountable for their quiet times. For 4+ years, I have been a part of a group of girls who email each other each daily after we have our quiet time. We say “Good Morning” and then share

what we read in our quiet time. Some of us have our quiet time first thing in the morning, while others squeeze it in during children’s naps or at bedtime. The time of day doesn’t matter…..our focus is just being in God’s Word daily!

Who can join?
Single women, married women, women with kids, women without kids, high school or college girls….. basically ANY woman who wants to pursue walking with Jesus.

Why?
Our main goal is to be accountable to each other and to help each other maintain the discipline of reading God’s word daily as we apply what we are reading to our lives.

What’s the commitment?

Joining a Good Morning Girls group requires commitment. Now that I have had time to watch these groups form and grow, I am aware that some start strong but then fizzle out. As a result the entire group can get discouraged. So it is very important that if you join a group you remain committed to the end. Even if you can only check in once or twice a week – please do not quit completely. The other girls WANT to hear from you!

The fall session runs from September 2nd-October 25th

“I get excited to wake up each morning to read the Word!!! GMG has helped me to stay on a daily schedule, and develop a routine. I love the accountability and discussion between women in my group!”- Kerri

Believe me, I know it’s hard to be in God’s Word as a busy mom. Mornings greet us with to-do lists to be check off, messes to clean, errands to run and children to help mold……into God’s image. Yes, as moms, we are responsible for teaching our children about God. Not the youth pastors. Not the Sunday school teacher. Us. The parents. The moms.

As moms, we are called to be gardeners of our children’s souls…intentionally, lovingly planting God’s Word into their hearts.

But as gardeners of our own souls, we need to make sure we are watering our “gardens” with God’s rich, unchanging, life-giving Word too. How can we pass God’s Word onto our children if we ourselves are not in His Word? That’s where “Good Morning Girls” comes into play. We have simple 8 week online Bible studies, all designed with YOU in mind.

Why do we do this? Because we are all moms too, most of us with little ones still at home. We understand how hard it is as a mom to be in God’s Word on a daily basis……alone…..without any friends. Friends who will pray for you, encourage you…..cheer you on and cheer you up on those hard days. As women, we were not created to go through life alone but rather in community…with other Christian women. So I invite you today to learn a little more about GMG and extend an invitation to join us this spring as we study Luke chapters 9-16 TOGETHER.

Still not sure if you should join Good Morning Girls this spring? Here are a few quotes from women who participated in past GMG Bible studies!

“I think this study has brought a whole new level of mindfulness to my day. It has forced me to look at myself and evaluate my responsibility in strengthening relationships. It’s also helped me define goals for myself with the confidence that these are Biblical goals. It’s been a long time since I’ve studied the Bible with any consistency and I’m so grateful that I chose this one. Very positive!“- Ginny

“Thank you so much for this study. It’s made a difference in my life, which extends to my husband, children, grandchildren.”- Cheryl

“For the past 2 years, God has used GMG to draw me closer to Him than ever before. I’ve taken leaps of faith as I’ve learned He is always there waiting to catch and guide me. He’s granted me the courage to lead 3 GMG studies, and I love it. In doing so, I’ve become a prayer warrior, and I’m no longer fearful of being transparent. Praying for others and sharing my testimony are are two of the greatest ways in which I can share God’s love with others. God has given me the power and perseverance to overcome many trials, while resting in His peace for His perfect timing and plan – I’ve overcome depression and a 21 year battle with bulimia, and I’m full of joy and love life. I can’t achieve anything on my own. I need Him.”- Jen

“The GMG studies have been such a huge blessing to me and my daughters. My 17 and 16 year old daughters have done the last 3 studies with me and it has brought us closer. God has been able to draw us near to him while also drawing us closer as mother and daughters and them as sisters. We started out just doing the first one together, then for the second and third we invited friends to join us and it has just been a wonderful experience. God shows Himself through these studies.”- Betty

As you can see, being in God’s Word on a daily bases DOES make a difference in your life!

You can sign-up individually or in a group……either way, we’d love to have you join us this spring!

The Importance of Being a “Pitcher”

I just wanted a few moments of “alone time”….just a few moments to get some things done around the house. As a mom of 3 children 6, 5, and 1 and finding those moments can be difficult. There is always something else that needs to be cleaned, picked-up or put away…always something or someone else who needs my attention. Such was the case the other day. I was busy. I had a lot on my plate and no time for detours. Ever been there?

I was busy getting ready to “serve” and I didn’t feel I had time to stop, slow down and serve yet another “need” that was wanting my attention. Only when I slowed down and actually looked at who was wanting my attention…..it was my sweet, sensitive Addie. What was her need? She wanted some mommy time. She wanted to sit in my lap and be held and loved on. She wanted me to read and play with her. She needed her cup filled up and she wanted me to be the pitcher. I had a choice. Do I sacrifice my wants, my desires? Do I sacrifice my to-do list, my “can’t get this all done if I stop now” feeling of needing everything to be just in the right place? Do I sacrifice my desire of wanting my house to look perfect? Or do I choose HER?

What would Jesus do?

In Ephesians 5:1-2 we read:
“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

How did Christ love? He gave Himself up as an offering and sacrifice to God.

I’m learning in life that love and obedience have more to do with my actions than my feelings. Even when I don’t feel like loving…..do it anyway. Even when I don’t feel like obeying….do it anyway. Even if I don’t feel like stopping and meeting a need….do it anyway. Feelings are misleading. They change depending on the day or circumstance…..but God’s truth never does. He calls us to live a life of love.

What does living a life of love look like?

We are called to imitate Christ. Jesus sacrificed His life so we might live. His love for us is the reason He was obedient….even unto death. Loving others well involves loving sacrifice. Sacrificing our wants and desires for the better of others, whether its our husbands, children, family or friends. Living our life in sacrifice and service. If we are to be imitators of Christ, we need to love and sacrifice like He did.

This is not always an easy road to travel. It’s counter to how the world tells us to live. The world tells us to live for ourselves, to please our wants and desires. That “if mama ain’t happy, ain’t no buddy happy.”

Taking this journey will look different for each individual. But our life of love needs to move beyond our feelings of affection for another to self-sacrificing service for another.

If we are to imitate Christ, then we need to serve like Christ. Jesus was a servant leader. He washed dirty, smelly, tired feet as a service to his disciples. He saw a need and He met it. As mothers and wives we are given the same opportunities. How will you be Jesus to your family today?

That day I chose to sacrifice my wants and desires.

I stopped.
I looked.
I held.
I listened.
I hugged and kissed that little girl.

I became a “pitcher” that day and Jesus used me to fill her back up.

To be honest with you……I wouldn’t want my life any other way.

What are some ways that you can be a “pitcher” today to your family?

Love God Greatly!

-Angela
