Healthy “Grab Bags” {Easy Snacks for the Family}

Who says that snacks can’t be fresh, healthy and come in little baggies?

Here is my simple tip on how to fill your family with nutrition without giving up on convenience!

My routine: When I come home from the grocery store, I stop right there …I dare not put my fresh items away. Out comes my sandwich bags, knives and cutting board! I place all my fruits, veggies and cheeses in front of me and get dicing and packing. I know myself all too well…if I put everything away, in most cases many of my items will get lost in my refrigerator, later to be discovered and spoiled. I force myself to get it all done and prepared right from the get-go. Here’s the process in action….

These “grab bags” are placed in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator for easy reaching. For all the “no’s” that get said during the day…these are {in most cases} a YES!

A GREAT  ”Back to School” snack that anyone can make {and take}!

Nice! Do the berries keep for more than a day? (Not that berries ever last more than a day around here…)

Great ideas! I have the same question, how long do the berries last when you prep them? Seems they’d spoil sooner. And does the cheese tend to dry out in baggies?

When I bring home strawberries or any fresh berries, I wash them in a vinegar water solution. Gently pat dry. Wash and dry the container the berries come in. Return the berries to the container and set them on the top shelf and to the front of the refrigerator
Think the vinegar water solution is 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water — this helps prevent mold from growing.
Have a clear plastic container that I keep carrots, peppers, cauliflower, or broccoli etc.prepared to eat. This helps with the munchies at our house.

    We
love to do this! I also will do it with other snacks–chips, pretzels,
granola. One thing on the next trip is to get dips and use the little
freezer jams containers, put in the bottom then put the fruit/veggie on
top of dip, lid it and it is waiting(ex: caramel with apple slices,
carrots with ranch, celery with pb, peppers with hummus). I always buy block cheese and break it down..as long as the bag is zipped closed it can stay for a long time. :)

I am amazed after buying all the prepackaged snacks, how much I can save just by buying a big bag of pretzels and making appropriate child-sized bags. I love doing this with fruit and veggies too! Love the cheese cube idea.

This is so smart! It’s a matter of planning ahead, and planning your day where you have enough brain cells and energy to do it when you get home! Thanks!

Brilliant. After just throwing out spoiled fruit, I’m even more inspired to do this! Thanks!

I am always disgusted at the amount of food I end up throwing away because it got lost in my refrigerator. This is a great practice and definitely one I need to put into place. Thank you for sharing!

If u cut up apples, would u need to sprinkle with lemon juice so they wouldn’t turn brown?
