Today's post is the first in a series called Back to School that we're doing for the next 10 days called:
Public school, Christian school, homeschool.
So many methods and even more opinions!!!
Some feel it best to send their children to some type of public education, others have a strong lean towards christian schooling, many believe homeschooling is the best option for their children and still others use a combination of the three!
What is the best type of education for your children?
That is a question I want to encourage YOU to start thinking about NOW!
My passion here on The Better Mom is to inspire young women, who don’t yet have children, to do something radical. I want to encourage you to start preparing NOW for the precious gift of children that you hope to receive in the future.
In this post it’s not my goal to tell you which method to choose but it is my goal to encourage you to weigh the options and take this decision seriously, even before you have children.
“Think about schooling options before I even have kids? You must be crazy!”, You say.
Well, maybe a little
but here’s how I see it: Children are a huge blessing but also a big responsibility. When God entrusts children to us we are charged to be good stewards of these little blessings. It’s our job to do everything in our power to shape them into strong arrows for the glory of God.
The method of education we choose to use for our children will have a BIG impact in their lives. Think about the average school year…..
6 hours of schooling per day x 5 days a week = 30 hours
30 hours or schooling a week x 35 weeks per year = 1050 hours
1050 hours per year x 12 years of schooling = 12600 hours
Wow! That a accumulates to a lot of time and a LOT of influence! 12600 hours or more will make a huge impact and drastically shape your child’s life. The choice of who and where you allow your children to be influenced is too big of a responsibility to not start preparing for as soon as possible.
As a young woman without children I’d strongly encourage you to take the time to research the different types of schooling so you can make an informed decision when the time comes.
- Research what is being taught in each school setting and measure it against God’s Word.
- Observe different families who trained their kids in each of the different settings. Take note of the positive and negative effects of their schooling choice.
- Talk to parents and ask why they chose the type of schooling they did for their children. Ask questions about their experience and what they liked about the method they used.
- Pray about it. Ask the Lord to guide you and your husband (or future husband) to the best plan for your family.
Observing the fruits, researching all of the options and them laying them against God’s Word is super important. The education you provide for your children will effect them in one way or another for the rest of their lives.
Don’t put off considering this important question. Start planning, preparing and researching NOW! Your kids will thank you!
