What If I Can’t Have Children? Was It All A Waste?

Here at the Better Mom it’s my passion to write posts on preparing for children NOW even before you have them.  I believe it is wise and biblical to plan ahead as much as you can for little blessings because children are too important to “just wing it”.

A question might come to your mind though.  All this planning and preparing now stuff sounds good but what if for some reason I can’t have children?  Won’t all my time spent preparing myself and learning how to raise children be wasted?

Guess what!  That answer is completely up to YOU!

You can either choose to keep the wisdom you learned to yourself

OR

You can choose to use it to be an incredible blessing and life changing influence in someone else’s life!

Our God is a creative God who loves diversity.  He calls some to have an impact on their own children and sometimes for others the greatest impact He desires for them to have is in the lives of other people’s children.  Don’t minimize the potential good influence you can have on the children you come in contact with.

Whether it’s with your nieces and nephews, your best friend’s kids, the children in your Sunday school class or the children of that tired mom next door; you can make a difference!

Love on the children and teens around you, invest some time having fun with them and building relationships.  Be a friend and role model for the children to look up to.  Don’t underestimate the impact you can have by taking that little neighbor boy, with a broken home, to a baseball game or inviting your nieces over for a fun evening of movies and nail painting.  Children notice when you spend time loving on them.  You can have a great opportunity to win their love and trust too and then use this as a launching pad for sharing the Gospel and biblical principals with them!

Strive to grow relationships with the young people around you.  Think of it as an opportunity to be the type of godly mentor talked about in Titus 2.

Investing time in the children around you can be a blessing to the kids but also a big blessing to the parents.  Sometimes parents need a little break to spend time with each other and get refreshed.  You can have an opportunity to impact a marriage and a whole family by giving mom and dad a little time away from the kids to just focus on strengthening their relationship.

Those were a few of the ways others can be blessed by you investing in the children around you but don’t forget the incredible blessing it can be to YOU!  There can be great satisfaction, joy, blessing and fun for yourself too when you invest in others!

Whether or not the Lord chooses to give you your own kids, taking the time to prepare for children NOW is such a valuable pursuit!   The Lord can use your preparedness in so many ways to impact so many lives for good and His glory!

Did you have any non parent influences in your childhood that really impacted your life? I’m sure I’ve left a lot of good ideas out.  Do you have any other suggestions or testimony of how someone can make a big difference on a child’s life?

Blessings, Ashley

I would LOVE it if more shared your perspective here…
We don’t have family in the close area who are able to invest in our kiddos or help with those times when we just need a little time to catch our breath and regroup.
We do have a few people in our life who have been a blessing to us in this way though and it is incredibly encouraging when someone who loves Christ reaches out to a family with children (as a ministry).

Don’t you just love how the body of Christ works? Even when our own family is not close by we have friends from our church family who God can use to encourage and bless us!

Just because you cannot have children all is not lost! I have miscarried 4 babies, but God has blessed me with 4 others that did not come from my body. I have 2 that I have adopted and 2 that I have fostered for the last 1 1/2 years. There is always a need for foster parents and adoptive parents as well! Someone has to take care of the orphans, whether by death or dysfunction.

Adoption is such a beautiful thing and such a great picture of salvation and our adoption into God’s family. Thank you for sharing the unique way God blessed your family!
