Drawing the Bible {4-7 Year Olds} & Better Mom Mondays Link-up!!

Welcome back to our Bible Reading Through the Ages Series. Last week we talked about some ideas for Reading the Bible With Children 0-3 Years Old. Today we are on week 2 and ages 4-7 years old.

A great way to get younger children into God's word is to help them draw it.  That's right; have them draw their very own Bible.  I did this with my two youngest children when they were 5 and 6 and they LOVED it!

The only supplies you will need is a sketchpad and crayons or markers.  You can certainly be more creative on some of the pages if you want.  For example on Day 2 of creation we pasted white cotton balls for the clouds, but you could also just draw them.

I would share a story out of a child's Bible. I like to use one of Ken Taylor's versions (this one is my favorite) but any child's bible will do.  Then they draw it.  I let them know right off that they don't have to be perfect; I just want to see what they come up with.  I'm amazed at the different ideas they have.

I would then write the story's title on a piece of paper and let them copy it on to their page.  Copy work is a great addition because it helps children in handwriting and spelling.  I do not cover every single story in the kids Bible but I do as many as I can.  Of course we also know not EVERY story is appropriate for a K-2nd grader so I keep that in mind.  Some stories are for later years.

If you are a homeschooler My Fathers World 1st grade has some great resources.  They really believe the Bible should be the first history book your kids learn and I couldn't agree more.  They include a bible story book along with the book Drawing with Children.  You do not need to be a homeschooler though to do this activity with your kids, just grab a sketchpad and start right in.  Your kids will be so proud of their book!  It is a great way to get the word in their heart at a young age.

It is never too late to teach our children the Word!  Never!  From the time they are born they should hear us praying and teaching it to them.  It should be such a natural part of their life they can't remember life without it!

And you shall teach them diligently unto your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. Deuteronomy 6:7 KJV
