A little frumptastic, eh? You’re not alone.

102 - Apr 12 - Bunny Slippers

“Mommy, pleeeeeeeeeeeease get me some cereal?!”

“Yep, okay, I’m up {pull covers closer}…just give me a minute {ahem, 10 more minutes)…”

You get up (finally!), and look for something comfortable…warm…soft…easy. You make your way to the kitchen and start making breakfast (ahem, coffee) and the babes something to eat. Time goes by and the day has begun.

And you’re still not dressed.

Not really anyway. You wouldn’t venture out to the coffee shop like this (maybe the drive through, but that’s it), and you sure as heck wouldn’t show up for lunch at your husband’s work looking like you do…all disheveled and slightly stinky (have you brushed your teeth yet?).

And here you are just a wee bit (I’m being nice) frumptastic for your family. How do you feel? Do you feel productive or lazy? Energized or tired? Pretty, or… {shudder}.

When I don’t at least put on some jeans and a cute shirt, a bit of makeup (hey, if the barn needs painted, paint it), and do something with this Mufasa hair of mine, I feel lazy, icky, and tired. I would hide if my husband brought someone home unexpectedly. Sure, I’m comfortable, and who really has time to look nice with little ones who need fed and a home taken care of? I mean surely if I had a maid and mother’s helper I’d get dressed, right? Right?!

Maybe.

But that’s not the point. The point is, I think we’ll be better (happier) mamas, wives, and homemakers if we take care of ourselves in the little things.

I know I feel better when I take the extra 10 or 15 minutes to find something cute to wear, put on some makeup, and attempt to tame the beast (ahem, Mufasa). I bet most of you do to.

So here’s what I’m proposing: Let’s get dressed, together.

The Get Dressed Challenge!

Yes, I realize it says…”to pumps”, but you don’t have to wear heels, the goal is to feel good, to get dressed, and enjoy your days more. Personally, I’m forgoing the heels and checking out some super cute slippers to wear with my cute outfits….

Etsy is a storehouse for comfy cozy cute slippers!

If you want to join, just head over to Like a Warm Cup of Coffee and check it out (and link-up if you have a blog). The format is a month-long motivotional (motivation + devotional) beginning Monday where we work towards making getting dressed a habit.

What are you waiting for? Let’s get dressed!

LOVE this idea … but it scares me! I don’t think my wardrobe is updated enough to look nice(r) 31 days in a row! :) … and I LOVE those slippers! So cute!

This is about fashion, my friend, this is just about feeling good about ourselves, looking nice for our family, and being more productive. It will be fun – come on! ;)

I couldn’t slouch around all day not being dressed, I would be so unproductive! I always put clothes ready before I go to bed so that when I get up I grab my pile of clothes, hit the shower, dress and face the day. Normally my kids wake about the same time but the rule is no-one goes downstairs until Mom is ready, hair dried and at least some mascara on to give the illusion of open eyes!! They can get dressed, play in their rooms or watch my TV and then when I’m good to face the world we head down together. (May be grouchy and tired but I can answer the door without cringing :) )

You are on it! Now if we all could be this way…

Even though the official “motivational” starts on Monday, you’ve already inspired me! I’m sitting at the computer looking forward to a day of writing, some grading, and house cleaning (well, looking forward to the first, sorta to the second, and not to the third) in my pajama pants and (sorta cute, but admittedly old) sweatshirt, no makeup and well, the tooth brushing just hasn’t quite happened yet. So, now a quick break to go take care of those things! Thanks for the reminder! Looking forward to the next month!

Did I mention I need this? Yea, it’s 10am, and I’m still in my Paul Frank [monkey] pajamas.

I must see a picture of you in the monkey PJ’s. Spectacular.

What a fantastic post… so true… the days I don’t get dressed right away in the morning… do get “away” from me…
The funny thing is, you examples of husband and a friedn from “work” stopping by and me hiding has happened to me… oh its so embarrassing. Let me tell you all it takes is happeneing once, and beleive me you won’t let it happen again. We always have people stopping in or by the house so I am blessed to have a certain “accountabiity in this area.” What I am working on is getting ready in the morning for my king, but also for my husband. About a year ago, after I had my 6th baby, I just felt older, like I pull off the “natural” look so well anymore. SOme might disagree, but I had a standard. I wanted to wow my husband.

Angie, the accountability thing is SO helpful! It’s the same thing for my home-if I know I’m having people over once/week it helps me keep up with my housework more.

Love this! Thank you for the challenge!

Oh my word – those slippers are going on my Christmas list! I am generally frumptastic, and SO THANKFUL that I have a husband who thinks I am a sexy mama anyway! But I should definitely brush my teeth… (tee hee)

Loved the post! And LOVE the slippers! I had no idea there were such things! So, sometimes it’s jammies til lunch around here, but today… we all were up and showered and dressed and outside doing yard work by 8am. (We have several LARGE oak trees, plus a few others that drop leaves) It’s autumn and we have a LOT of raking to do! :)

  • Hislovendures

I am so in! Just finished reading FlyLady’s book and have been trying to get dressed on a regular basis, by the time my husband leaves for work. I love this challenge and just maybe the solidarity of doing it with others will help me make this a habit!

  • Jenifer

My mama taught us growing up that you get up, showered and ready as if you had some place important to be even if you were staying home doing nothing all day. You never know what might arise that you need to leave. In my adult life, the three and only three times I decided to not wear makeup and only wore sweats (looked and felt awful about myself too!) something happened and I had to rush out of the house looking horrid! Mama was right. :) We homeschool and most days the kids and I do not leave the house. But we still get up, shower and dress for the day.

Loved reading this – made me laugh out loud! This is my first week home as a stay-at-home wife/mom and it has been so much busier than I had every imagined it would be. So I’ve been getting up early and getting dressed each morning for my new job which I LOVE and PRAISE GOD for! I have to say that I’m so happy to not have to wear my pumps anymore – CUTE flip flops are my shoe of choice and I get to wear FUN clothes like jeans, shorts and tees now! Woo Hoo!! This is the BEST JOB in the whole world and I thank God for allowing me to finally “retire” from my career as a working mom and enjoy this new chapter as FT wife/mom! I think I’ll put those adorable slippers you have on your post on my Christmas wish list and claim I need them to look nice for my new job! Thanks so much for this inspiring post! Blessings to you, Kelly

So…I read this earlier this morning while sitting in my Snuggie…I know…
    So very attractive…
Drinking coffee…but it was a great prompt to at least put on the work-out-gear and attempt to be productive….thank you :)
Funny how much dressing for the job actually does help!
I’m not a “pumps” sort of girl…but if I put on the active gear, I’m so much more likely to be…well…active.
And in honor of this post.
I’m going to toss my Snuggie.
    I give you my promise.
    My husband hates it.
    But it was oh-so-practical-in-those-days-of-nursing…
    Which are long gone.
And it’s time for it to be long gone…because it’s absolutely frumptastical.
    Ugh.
    *tears*
    I love my Snuggie.
    Sigh.
    Okay…it’s time.

SO true! I just have a toddler now and work very part time, so we try to make plans (first thing!) several mornings a week, whether it’s Bible study or a park play date- it’s nice to get up and get after it in the morning. I always find more time in my day and new ways to praise the Lord, when I’m dressed :)

PS- those slippers are the cutest! We don’t wear shoes in our house, and I’d LOVE to get a pair. Been searching etsy for them- do you remember the seller/listing/etc? Thanks!

    • http://www.likeawarmcupofcoffee.com Sarah Mae

Jenn, if you click on the picture it will take you to wear you can get them. ;)

  • Louanne

This is fun. In the last couple of months I have started joining my DH at the gym and weight training and for my birthday I just asked for new dresses and skirts. It really does make me feel better. They aren’t expensive, just fun :)

Thanks for writing this article! I did this yesterday and today and I felt so much more productive all day! I’m a mother of two babies (2 years, and 9 months). We just moved to a new place and my husband’s boss’s wife decided to “drop in” on me twice in the last month, and both times found me still in my robe and slippers. How embarrassing! I definitely need this challenge! :)
